Fishing – A Favorite Past-Time

Fishing is a fun, relaxing activity that rewards the participant with a "nice catch". It is one of the world’s favorite past-times, and a source of livelihood for many. Fishermen and farmers go back in history as long as the pen can write, and today, the same appreciation for fishing can be seen although from quite a commercial standpoint.

If you want to bond with your children, take them out to a lake and go fishing. The time you spend alone will trigger conversations, as there is not much to do while fishing other than holding the rod and occasionally reeling in a fish.

Or, if you’re more ambitious, take up fishing as a sport. Bass fishing and similar activities are highly competitive sports in which the entire objective is to see who can catch the biggest fish or the highest quantity in the shortest period of time. Its a nationally televised sport with big payouts and rewards.

Before you go fishing, keep in mind that you’ll need to be prepared. Having a nice rod, reel and bait is a must, while keeping in mind what type of lake you’re going to and the type and density of fish.

Bulgarian food, a recipe for Bulgarian Kavarma.

Bulgarian food, a recipe for Bulgarian Kavarma.

There are probably as many recipes for Bulgarian Kavarma as there is recipes for Rakia. However, this is a good place to start. Add a little take a little, this is cooking, not rocket science. What gives it a distinctive taste? In my opinion the savory and the peppers…….Enjoy

300g                Pork or chicken

2-3 tbsp            Sunflower oil 9or whatever fat you like

1                      Large onion

2-3                   Peppers (bell type)

1                      Tin chopped tomatoes, or 300ml tomato juice

Half  cup            Red wine

Pinch                Chilli powder, or fresh chillies to taste

Tbsp                Paprika (red pepper powder)

Salt                  To taste

Pepper             To taste

*Savoury            To taste (savory)

Cut meat to bite sized pieces

Brown the meat in the sunflower oil

Take out and put aside

Sweat onions in the same oil, adding the peppers when the onions are becoming translucent.

Add the rest of the ingredients ans slowly cook out for at least 2 hours (less for chicken)

Savoury or Savory, depending on what spelling you believe, is also called hen spice. It’s Bulgarian name is Choobritza (that is the closest I can get without using the Cyrillic alphabet, say it as it sounds, not Chooberitza.
