My mother is kind of old fashioned and so I still have to remind her to lock her car and house doors all the time. I also told her that she needs to get herself a good locking mailbox so people can’t steal her mail. She doesn’t quite understand why someone would do that even though I keep telling her that this is a great way to steal someone identity. I will probably just have to buy her one myself and have my dad install it. I love her so much but she needs to come into this century a little bit more.

The most intriguing and persistent effect in therapeutics must be “the placebo effect” – the self-healing brought about through positive expectation. This can be the level of trust generated in the therapeutic relationship, the cultural meaning of the treatment etc.
When we get sick the body’s natural healing system isn’t working effectively – however if the body’s self-healing mechanism can be kicked back into gear by an increased expectation of positive outcome – e.g. through using clinical hypnosis therapy – then it may follow that the self-healing mechanism can be inhibited by a poor expectation of positive outcome – or a high expectation of negative outcome – i.e. those who expect to get stick get sicker and those who expect to get well get better.
The challenge is that self-reporting on expectation may not reveal the true level of expectation – i.e. that the individual may not always be directly or have direct access to their level of expectation as it manifests in health. However the double-blind placebo controlled trials do identify the positive results associated with expectation.

Why aren’t the signs of alcohol poisoning posted in every bar, in every restaurant that permits drinking, and at every sporting event where people can purchase alcoholic beverages? While it would be a bit much to post information about the signs of alcohol abuse or alcoholism, posting the signs of alcohol poisoning makes sense for the following reason. The worst-case scenario at a bar, restaurant, or sporting event would be catering to people who drink so much that they experience an alcohol overdose. Indeed, if businesses can prepare for the worst situation that could happen, then they will be able to handle any situation that takes place.
