Rap lyrics: A matter of supply and demand
December 8th, 2008
Over the years, many have spoken out against the abrasiveness of some of the rap lyrics in today’s music. For some, these rap lyrics promote negative stereotypes of young black men and young black women. The young men think that it is okay to forego an education to become a pimp and have a lot of bling. The young women think it is okay to be demeaned by these same black men and that their future consists of being video dancers. Unfortunately, the positive side of rap music is down played while the negative gets the most attention. However, it makes you wonder: is rap music wrong, or is the demand for the abrasive lyrics wrong?
