record oil prices

Do record oil prices have you fearing the apocalypse?  You may think I’m kidding, but I was watching the show Mega Disasters (I think it’s a history channel show, but it might be on Discover, I don’t remember) and one of their shows was about the potential oil apocalypse.  Think about it.  This country with it’s sprawling urban landscape and it’s large gas guzzling SUVs is particularly susceptible to an oil catastrophe.  Just think if a natural disaster happened in the gulf region or there was a major disaster in the middle east.   Gas prices could get up to $7 or $8/gallon and then what.  Suddenly, most people really can’t afford to fill up with gas and they can’t get to work anymore.  This country would come to a standstill overnight.  I hope it doesn’t happen but I think we need to do more to make sure it doesn’t happen.
