How to Teach a Student’s First Piano Lesson

January 17th, 2010

The first day of a student’s piano lesson will be more of an orientation session  between student and teacher. This is a chance to explore what the student wants to learn to play on the piano. Does he want to play classical or jazz music? It’s important for the teacher to open communication lines between them, especially with young students.

During the first lesson a good teacher will be able to see what teaching method best suits the student’s learning capacity. Which style works best for the student to learn in an effortless manner? Teaching piano lessons should be fun too and not something a student or instructor should struggle with.
