How You Can Find Out if Someone is a Felon

Some day, you may want to do a criminal record search, either on yourself or on someone else. First, why on earth would you want do such a search on yourself, given that you know if you have a felony record or not? Here’s one reasons I had: I wanted to get a security-guard license, and the school that did the training asked all clients to get a certified copy of their criminal records, and they told us how to do it. This is because my state does not give guard licenses to anyone who has a felony conviction. I went to the criminal court in my city, showed them my state ID, and, wonder of wonders, I got a printout of my record (showing I had never been arrested, at least not in my state), which was stamped by the clerk. And it was free! I was told that I could also get the criminal record of anyone in the state if I could provide their full name and date of birth, but it would cost me $5 for each record. Of course, you can also do a public-record search in person, at any court house. Another way to do such a criminal record search is by using an online provider, one which compiles records from many sources, not just from your state. You will be charged a fee for this.
