Why Your Employees Need Plastics Training
January 6th, 2008
Employee training is something that everyone talks about, but only a few companies actually have a structured approach to implement. In the plastics industry, giving employees a firm foundation in plastics training is vital. Plastics processing machinery is very expensive. A low cost basic model injection molding machine runs about $100,000. Add in a mold, which costs about $10,000 at the low end, and you’ve got a significant investment that requires a certain level of trained personnel to operate properly. It’s surprising how many companies will make a $100,000 plus investment in capital equipment, then turn around and put a $7.00/hour employee in front of to operate. It doesn’t make sense. However, there are some companies in the plastics industry that take a proactive approach to plastics training and see the benefits over and over again. Training is one of those things that truly pays back many times what you spend on it. Imagine the cost of just one mistake that ruins a $10,000 mold. Would it have been worth a 1 hour training lesson to avoid that mistake in the first place. The answer is obviously yes. Yet many companies view mistakes as just the cost of doing business without taking a look at how avoiding them in the first place through proper training would benefit them. The world class companies that have taken an aggressive approach to employee training are the ones that will prosper over the long run.
