An Eighth Grade Student Discovers That Alcohol Problems Run in Families

September 18th, 2008

Jason was an eighth grade student in the all-boys Catholic junior high school.  Ever since Greg, his older brother, had to go for alcohol abuse treatment Jason was interested in finding out more information about alcohol, especially when alcohol abuse and alcoholism were the topics.  One of the things that concerned Jason was the fact that alcohol problems run in families.  Does this mean that drinking behavior is learned or that there is a heredity component in alcoholism and alcohol abuse?  Due to the fact that his brother had alcohol problems, did this mean that he too could become an alcohol abuser or an alcoholic?  Then Jason figured that he can side-step all of these facts and statistics if he makes sure that he never drinks excessively when he becomes an adult.
