November 21st, 2009
Ankle syndesmosis injury, also known as high ankle sprain, is oftentimes misdiagnosed and commonly causes chronic pain and acute ankle sprain. Usually a classical ankle sprain is a sprain that stretches or tearing the ligaments surrounding the ankle joint which further results in pain and swelling around the ankle joint. Depending on the severity of the ankle sprain, it is indeed very uncomfortable and difficult to walk on. If the ankle sprain is very severe then the ligament between the tibia and fibula just above the ankle is also strained and this is what results in Ankle syndesmosis injury because this joint is called a syndesmosis.
