Drawbacks of mobility scooters

January 29th, 2008

Mobility scooters are similar to wheelchairs but are generally lighter and cheaper.  They are obviously being seen as a Clayton’s car rather than a second pair of legs.  Mobility scooters are available worldwide at medical supply stores, specialty shops and from a multitude of online distributors.  They are a big investment so be sure to make the right decision.  Some potential drawbacks of mobility scooters are their long length, which limits their turning radius and ability to use some lifts or wheelchair-designed access technologies such as kneeling bus lifts.  Most mobility scooters are defined by four features which separate them from power wheelchairs — scooters are directed by a tiller at the front of the base that can steers the front wheel.
