Fenugreek — an ancient herb still in use today

February 7th, 2008

Fenugreek (Trigonella graecum) is one of the oldest known medicinal plants in use today and is native to Europe and India.  It is often made into a gargle and used as remedy for the common cold, the flu and sore throats.  Fenugreek and may be beneficial in the potential relief of symptoms of diabetes by helping to reduce blood sugar and harmful fats.  Fenugreek seeds can be ground and made into a poultice that can be applied to areas affected by skin irritations, tumors, swollen glands and neuralgia.  In Asia, Fenugreek is often made into a tea to aid in digestion and is also rumoured to be an aphrodisiac in folklore but there is no evidence to support this rumour.
