Food Allergies Can Be Outgrown

April 5th, 2008

Many allergies affect children, one of the most common being a food allergy. This could be to any number of foods or even beverages which causes parents to be especially careful with their child’s diet. The good news is that many food allergies will be outgrown by the time the child hits 10 years old. While this is not always the case, many times it does happen but why is somewhat of a mystery to doctors. Allergies in general are somewhat of an unknown as they can come on with little warning and leave just as fast. The majority of non food allergies will not be outgrown, forcing the allergy sufferer to deal with it their entire life. They must always be aware of the things that they are allergic to and be ready to administer any necessary medication until they can reach medical attention, if necessary. Food allergies are sometimes easier to monitor as it is as simple as monitoring the diet. However, certain things like milk and peanuts find their ways into many foods that you wouldn’t even suspect. A doctor or allergist can help set some guidelines on the types of foods that are safe and the ones that are not.
