Helping needy children in Guatemala
September 18th, 2008
The year 2001 brought hardship and great difficulties to many needy people in Guatemala, and saw a lot of aid groups move in to start helping needy children survive and get on their feet again. A drought hit the country and wiped out crops. There must have been some 60,000 severely malnourished children left languishing in the wake of that calamity. IN fact, aid groups said some 6000 of them were in great danger of actually dying from hunger. There is a lot of need in the region, actually, and not just in the drought years. For example, in nearby Colombia and Peru it is estimated around 25 percent of people are needy and suffering from hunger in one form or another, and to varying degrees. Where this many people go without food, there will be many needy children.
