Probably Not Quite a Natural Cure, But Better Than Taking Drugs

I work with a woman who has ankylosing spondylitis. She’s got it pretty well under control, but since she knows I’m into doing things naturally, she asked me if I knew of any non-drug treatment that might help her. I really had no idea, but I told her I’d check and see if I could find anything that might help.

Now, if you don’t know (I didn’t, until she discovered she had the disease), ankylosing spondylitis is a form of rheumatoid arthritis. The main symptom is that the bones of the spine begin to form little growths, and unchecked the spine can ‘fuse’ or lock into one position. So I looked for possible natural solutions for rheumatoid arthritis. I found a number of anecdotal accounts of people claiming total cure by completely removing starchy carbs from their diet, and by pursuing that avenue, found a couple of ankylosing spondylitis sufferers who claimed that same diet totally eliminated all their symptoms.

While I don’t think you can call this diet an ankylosing spondylitis natural cure based on just a few anecdotal cases, I told my friend and she seemed enthusiastic about giving it a try, which surprised me because she seems to live on chips, bagels and soda.
