Understanding What Carbohydrates Do

If you are thinking about starting a diet, it’s important to gain a firm understanding of what carbohydrates do . Carbs are the body’s primary source of energy which can be both a good and a bad thing. If you are about to swim across the English channel, you’re going to want as many carbs as you can get to keep you going. However, if like most of us you are sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day, we need much less energy. Energy converts into fat storage when it goes unused, which is one reason carbs get such a bad rap in the press. The real answer to a good diet is not to cut carbs out of it entirely, but to watch what types of carbs you ingest, and what time of day you do it.
