Why does my skin lotion have Honeysuckle in it?
April 3rd, 2008
Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera Japonica) is a perennial climbing herb with white edible flowers and black berry like fruits; the honeysuckle flowers give of a sweet smell and attract butterflies and birds. Landscaping experts say the honeysuckle is classed as a weed in North America as it spreads and takes over areas within short spaces of time, and is difficult to eradicate without the use of weed killers. However I always liked the plant and I had it growing on a trellis along the side of my garage.
Japanese Honeysuckle is used as a health ingredient in external creams and lotions for easing rashes and inflammations of the skin.
Japanese Honeysuckle is believed by some herbologists to possibly be useful as an anti inflammatory, antibacterial, diuretic, antispasmodic and febrifuge (an agent that reduces fever). Medical studies are needed to find out if these beliefs have factual basis in medical science.
