Our Remodeled Farmhouse

November 8th, 2009

We remodeled our old farmhouse kitchen in the fall of 2005. The main changes we made were to the quartz kitchen countertops. What was once an orangey-yellow formica from the 60’s, became a custom stone layout and mosaic. We set the stone right on top of the existing counters, using the sturdy material as a base. We decided to install 18×18 quartz for the main counter runs, with a 2×2 slate and tumbled marble checkerboard back splash. The larger tiles are more functional for everyday use, giving us the ability to write on the counters without worrying about grout lines interfering. The smaller tiles used in the backsplash break up the monotony of the countertops.
