Wranglers use hunting dogs

August 3rd, 2008

When I left the city to start working on ranches I learned the value of hunting dogs. After a couple years getting familiar with the job I started working with the ranch wranglers. These are the ranch hands the hunt the game that pose a danger to cattle. Where I work this is a combination of wolf, cougars, and bear. We generally use pointer types of dogs because they can spot the target and strike a pose to point them out and they stay silent. I work 4 separate ranches that have both ranch and state bounties for the game. I do quite well using two dogs most of the time, but I also hunt with just one dog also.
