The Ex Squared System

December 30th, 2008

“If our arrows miss—”     “Everyone has them.”    “Not you.  Your hatred of the Empire binds your fear.  When we were looking for your brother, you didn’t care how close the Romans came.  And minutes ago … you would have killed me.”    “You wanted to kill my brother.”    “To keep him quiet, is all.  I couldn’t have killed him, not really.”    “It doesn’t matter.  Right now we need to deal with those Romans.”    Then Taranis or Lon would surely be exposed in the Romans’ sweep of the ridge.    He scanned the clearing.    “Quick,” he said, “help me carry Eston to that tree.”    Taranis grasped Lon’s arm, “I know your heart.”    “I’ll shoot my arrows, and then attack with my sword.”    “Don’t worry, we can do it The Ex Squared System.”
